Product FAQ

When and where can I buy a copy of your book?

You can buy our cookbook right here on our website! Online orders come with a signature (if you want), eco-friendly packaging, and part of the profits we receive will go towards supporting Dementia Wellington. If you prefer to buy in store, take a look at our stockists.

Where can I keep up to date with your journey and learn about how you made the book?

We have active Instagram and Facebook accounts, so follow us to keep up to date on what we’ve been up to. We’ll be posting all sorts of posts such as the steps to how we made the book, food photos, recipes, more about us, and other bits and pieces.

We also have a blog page here on our website with short reads on each step of our journey to show you how we tackled our project. We hope that you can find inspiration through our blogs to make your very own self-published cookbook, or to kick off a business idea that you’re passionate about that’s lurking in the back of your mind!

What is Gujarati food?

Gujarat is a state in the North-West part of India, where our family is originally from. The food originating from Gujarat is probably a little bit different to the traditional types of Indian curries that you might be used to. Recipes are usually tomato or just spice based without cream - an added bonus of also making it healthier! It’s tasty, moorish, and full of vibrant flavours that will pop and dance on your palate and keep you coming back for more. We can’t wait for you to explore our cuisine and help us pass it on with your family and friends!

Are the recipes in your book labelled with dietary requirements i.e. vegetarian, gluten free and dairy free?

Yes we’ve labelled each recipe with either ‘vegetarian’, ‘gluten free’ and/or ‘dairy free’ so it’s nice and easy if you’re looking for a recipe with a specific dietary requirement.

Are the ingredients that will be in your recipes readily available in New Zealand?

Yes, all of the ingredients that you’ll need to cook our recipes are readily available in New Zealand. There are tonnes of Indian spice stores scattered around the country that usually have a full range of every spice you can think of - especially in the big cities. Some of the vegetables used are seasonal and you should be able to get them from vegetable markets and supermarkets, but you can also buy some in frozen packets at your local Indian store.

There’s a section in the book on making your own spice grinds to use in other recipes. Can you buy the spice grinds instead of making them?

Yes you can buy ready made spice grinds (such as garam masala) from your local Indian store, but we do recommend that you make them from scratch. Homemade spice grinds using the recipes from our book will give you the best flavours, and will create aromatic curries that taste how they truly should!
